Is Juice Fattening?

“Is juice fattening?”
Across the table, our friend grabs the innocent Ceres box and starts reading the nutritional information. It’s a little Ceres juice box. If you don’t see anything wrong with this situation, then you’re either in way too deep or – you’re a man.
“Fruit juice contains a lot of natural sugar…. Blah blah fructose blah blah don’t have it often blah” she begins to lecture the one who posed the question of juice.  The question asker already has an amazing boyfriend and the answerer is skinny.

At this point, I flinched inwardly. I can’t begin to fathom how people can carry a level of neurosis so severe that they analyse juice boxes. Yet, it also makes me realise how grateful I am for a healthy body image. No, I’m not telling you I’m fat in a subtle way, I’m telling you I don’t super analyse everything I eat and I carry a self love for myself that is deeper than a 300ml juice box. By my experience, the neurosis is evident in females that are already skinny.

How do you deal with living in an environment where every second girl is paranoid about what they eat and complains about eating 10 biscuits? I phone my mother, and she reminds me of what is real, what isn’t and whether or not I’m being dramatic. What kind of life, do you live, worrying about this material body when there are higher orders of thought to maintain? To cultivate spirituality, to garner friends that can see beyond your body and to develop a successful career are some things I’d rather focus on than the fat content of juice. I have nothing against eating healthy. I have concern for people that are crazy about being skinny.

Perhaps it’s an eating disorder. I say it’s a matter of manning the hell up and learning to be happy with yourself.
